The Scientific Revolution
What was the Scientific Revolution?
The Scientific Revolution was a time of remarkable discovery and change in Europe. Beginning around the 1500s, scientists and thinkers questioned old ideas and used observation, experiments, and math to better understand the natural world. During the Scientific Revolution, many of the techniques, methods, and processes were developed for the scientific process that we still use today.
Introduction to our WebQuest
Welcome, Scientist.
The year is 1651, and the world is buzzing with new ideas. Old ways of thinking are being challenged, and discoveries are reshaping everything people thought they knew. You are at the center of it all. After publishing your latest breakthrough, your name has begun to spread through the scientific community. Some call you bold. Others call you dangerous. But one thing is certain, people are paying attention.
This morning, as you return to your desk at the university, you notice a letter sealed with strange symbols. Inside, it reads:
Your Mission
To earn your place among them, you must pass their test of wits. The order has hidden six secret passcodes throughout this site. Each one is tied to the groundbreaking discoveries, daring experiments, and great thinkers of the Scientific Revolution.
Your mission:
Explore the site carefully.
Learn the stories of the revolutionaries who dared to question tradition.
Find all six passcodes and put them in the correct order.
Deliver the final sequence to the Order’s point person (Mr. Tereba).
Succeed, and you will earn your seat among history’s greatest minds. Fail… and the Order will move on to someone else.
Instructions
On your document for this WebQuest, there is a header for each section of the Scientific Revolution WebQuest. Other than the first section, “Scientific Tools and Instruments,” each section is blocked by a password. To discover the password, you will need to read each page and answer each question.
When you find the answer to one of the questions, you will put it in the answer section, with each letter in its own box.
As you put in the answers to the questions, some of those letters will also appear in the hidden letters section. Once you have answered all four questions for the page, you will have all your hidden letters. These letters can be rearranged or descrambled to form a word. This word is the password to the next page.
You will repeat this process until you have found all 6 passwords. Once you have all six passwords, figure out the order of those passwords and show your results to Mr. Tereba. If you succeed, the Secret Order of Scientific Minds will allow you into their ranks.
Keep an eye out for other secrets that the Secret Order of Scientific Minds has hidden within this WebQuest. They will prove helpful to your mission. Good luck, and may the best scientists win!
Thanks for reading the introduction!
